“Let fear be what it is…but do not let fear determine who you are.”
Dr Keith L. Marshall, Psy.D

When I first met Dr. Keith Marshall at the Black Business Mixer given by Colyna Winbush, I was impressed by his testimonial. Yes, his title is Dr., but he is a man that has been through struggles most couldn’t overcome, let alone become an amazing success.

I can tell you that he’s not a native of Pasadena, but he is one of our greatest assets, because he is a leader of a pack.

Keith wants to become more involved in the community now that he has his business running in a way where he can give some of himself to others. That may sound a little selfish, but what I learned from Keith during our first meeting is that you have to be a little arrogant and cocky to be successful and that may mean you don’t have time to spread yourself out until what you do is established.

The owner of Dedicato Treatment Center nestled at the top of Sierra Madre, Keith is one of a few African American to own a complete drug and mental abuse center in the country. Dedicato is also one of the few facilities that meet Joint Commission standards.

Keith was born in the city of Philadelphia. Throughout his formative years and into high school he was a good student and competed in both football and track and field. In high school he excelled in sports and lettered in both varsity football and track and field at Germantown High school, and graduated with meritorious honors. Upon graduation from high school he started working at a cleaning service company in 1981 and worked his way into management within one year. Keith ended up working in the service industry for 15 years as a Director of Environmental Services for various companies managing large staffs of employees, with bottom line experience.

Unfortunately, during his early years of employment he also experimented with drugs and fell victim to addiction, which led him to years of unemployment, homelessness, being shot in the head, and many other tragic and near death situations.  In 2003 after a very powerful spiritual experience and with painstaking introspective work on himself and faith, Keith overcame his battle with addiction and then realized that his true passion and purpose in life, was to influence, inspire, educate, empower, and help people, suffering from addiction and other human developmental struggles.

In his efforts to become more effective at helping others Keith went back to school in 2006 and earned an Alcohol and Drug Specialist Certificate from Glendale Community College in 2007 and became a Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor by the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California & the California Alcohol and Drug Educators (C.A.A.D.E).  In 2007 he attended Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena CA., and earned both his Bachelor and Master Degree in Human Development with a Specialization in Education (Keith also completed all his core courses in the Marriage and Family Therapy program before changing his major to Human Development).  In the fall of 2011 he applied and was accepted to the Chicago School of Professional Psychology where he earned his Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology all the while maintaining a perfect grade point average of 4.0 throughout the entire school process. Moreover, during those years, he also worked as a clinical director for two different drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, a substance abuse counselor at various mental health and substance abuse treatment centers working with adults and adolescents, and as a certified personal fitness trainer for his own fitness company.

Keith has also earned two Professional Fitness Instructor and Trainer Certifications which gives him a unique understanding of how to emphasize and integrate holistic health to clients. His areas of specialty are administration, psychoeducation, group and individual psychotherapy, family therapy and education, motivational speaking, life skills education, substance abuse counseling, communications skill training, twelve step education, specialized forensic mental health treatment, and health & fitness and nutrition consultation.
